Menuism - Rate What You Ate

Web2.0 has enabled us to Tag all sorts of content and new startup Menuism.com is continuing this trend by allowing anyone to rate and tag food they ate at any restaurant across the US.

The concept is simple.  Just browse using the integrated map to find the restaurant you ate at, add your dish and then rate and tag it.

Those looking for a good meal can search by dish or restaurant making selecting the perfect meal a breeze.  Menuism is currently only available in the US but if all goes well they will expand.

Server Problems

For those of you who recently visited the website may have noticed something wierd going on.  For those who didnt see, the regular website was replaced by another project the TAP team is currently working on. We must have accidently uploaded the website to the wrong server.  Those of you lucky enough to see this new project would have got a sneak preview at a new web app to hit the net sometime next month.

We seem to have fixed most issues but if you see any bugs make sure you let us know!

The USB Cell

I have come across tons of useless USB gadget including the USB cup warmer, rocket launcher and fan but when I was emailed about this new USB Cell I became very, very interested.

The USBCell allows you to charge this ordinary functioning battery using your USB port.  This means, no longer do you need an expensive recharger to top up your rechargable batteries.

This product is currently only available in the UK and therefore I havnt been able to give it a full review.  I would really like to know how long a full recharge lasts for and how long it takes to charge.

To find out more visit www.usbcell.com

Create Flash Movies Online

I was recently asked to take a look at www.toufee.com . At Toufee you can easily create flash movies, slidesows banners and more and then add them to your blog, site or ebay auction.

Due to my extremely busy schedule I was unable to register and take the site  for a real test drive but my first impression is this is similar to swish but its compeltely web based.

Give Back to Bloggers

A lot of people love to read blogs.  They provide a great source of entertainment, news and other content.  I am sure that I am not alone in wanting to give something back to the authors of my favorite blogs for all the great content they provide.  Well now you can!

Relatively new startup, IndieKarma.com has created a great new way to support bloggers.  The system is simple; everytime you visit a blog that is part of the IndieKarma network your account is automatically debited just one cent.  You can also choose to not donate any money or donate even more - its up to you.  Micropayments have never really worked in the past but this original idea mught just take off.

That Amazing Person like this idea so much so that we have decided to include our blog in the network.  You can see the widget on the sidebar to the right.

Make sure you register with IndieKarma soon as they are giving $1 free to the first 5000 members who register. And you too can support the blogs you love

Life’s Little Essentials

I am asked to take a look at and review many websites everyday, but when I was asked to review www.termlifeinsuranceratecompany.com I was a little suprised.  I usually look to review websites that are based around new technologies or feature creative ideas - this sites features none of this.

However, looking through the website are began to wonder what new web technologies like Ajax could improve websites like this.

The current website features a quoting system that allows you to enter various details and the system will respond with instant life insurance quotes.

If the owners of the site decided to incorporate a web 2.0 looking design and add some ajax functions this site could really be an instant success.

Look Good! - Free desktops and icons

PixelGirlPresents.com
One of my all time favorite websites is Pixel Girl Presents.  The site offers a huge collection of great looking desktop backgrounds, icons and some tutorials and articles relating to design.  The desktops and icons are created by independent artists and therefore there is a huge variety on offer.  Make sure you also check out the Pixel Girl Shop which features products from indendent designers as well.

YellowIcon.com
Yellow Icon is similar to PixelGirlPresents but it only offers Icons.   All of the icons look great and are submitted by the community and yellow staff.   The site has over 30 pages of free icons for all operating systems.   Yellow Icon is free from advertising and the clean design makes it a breeze to quickly find and download quality desktop icons

InterfaceLift.com
Interface lift features a range of icons an windows themes.  The desktops seem mostly to be photographic but they do have a nice slection of icons.  The major downfall of Interface Lift is the quantity of advertising!

David Lanham
This designers website features a good selection of quality desktops and icons.  He also offers you the opportunity to purchase any of the desktops as a print.  Free of advertising and easy to navigate through, this site is great!

This is part one of our free desktops and icons series.  The next part will be available next week.  If you know of any sites that should be covered in this section then make sure you let us know using the comment feature below
