Another way to Share Maps

UseAMap.com is another way to share maps online by giving you a short URL of your map.

Shortening of URL’s is nothing new (take a look at www.tinyurl.com) but short URL’s for maps is!

The website uses Google Maps (what else) and the entire process takes around 30 seconds or less. No registration is required and currently only 1243 maps have been created meaning finding a unique URL is no problem at all.

I dont think I need to explain just how many uses this site could be put to and this will be one those services that will be around in years to come.

I liked did you? Take a loot at www.useamap.com

What’s Lost is Now Found

The idea behind The Found Bin is simple.  You post an item you have lost to the website and if someone finds your item they will let you know.  People who have also found stuff can also post these items.

As good and as simple as this sounds, I can see a few flaws.  For a social website like this to work, it would require a lot of people using it.  It is no good having just a couple of people using the service and as far as I can tell, not many people are using it.

However, I like the concept and it would be great to see this take off.  So in the future we might here, after losing an item “Try The Found Bin!”

Babelgum is Next Gen TV

I predict TV over the internet is going to be the “big” thing in 2007.  I have already taken a look at Joost (previously the “Venice Project”) and was impressed. And now a new player has emerged - Babelgum.com

I havn’t heard much about Babelgum except it will offer a desktop based player that will be able to deliver full screen viewing.

There website (www.babelgum.com) mentions the software will learn from what you have watched to create personal channels which sounds exciting!

I will look forward to being able to test the software out and see if it lives up to its talk.

Plan the “Best Party Ever”

BestPartyEver.com makes it easy for you to find vendors near you to plan a party.  The site claims to list over 88,000 vendors across the United States, which is surely enough to plan a pretty decent party.

What lets the site down is its lack of social features.  The feature missing is the ability to share and rate vendors you have previously used and without this the site is really missing out on something.

But apart from this, it has a good range of planning features and a handy checklist.

Share Sites with Spicypage

SpicyPage.com uses a digg like interface to share sites or blogs.  Unlike Digg, Del.icio.us or similar sites, Spicypage focuses on sharing actual websites and blogs not individual pages or articles.

The websites has all the common social bookmarking features (posting, commenting and voting) but also includes interest groups and statistics.

Overall the website is very well built, nicely laid out with a nice design.  At time of writing SpicyPage, unlike many other social bookmarking websites doesn’t seem to be affected by spam and hopefully this trend will continue.

Cheap Broadband (Sponsor)

Note - Sponsors play a very important role here at TAP. By supporting our sponsors you are also supporting us!

How does a free month of broadband sound? Pretty good! But what if I told you that Eclipse Internet will also give you a free wireless router.  I have heard of broadband providers giving away free modems but not a free wireless router!

Available from just 14.99 and with speeds upto 8mbps this is a great deal.  They also have some other great features like a $30 bonus when you introduce a friend.

9/10 people say that they would reccomend Eclipse to a friend and are satisfied with the overall experience.  But I will leave it up to you.  Do any Tap readers also use Eclipse let me know! I would love to hear your experience. And also let me know if you can find another ISP that will give you one month free plus a free wireless router.

Another Social Wine Network

I previously discussed two wine related social netorking sites here but today I came across Vinorati which prompted me to ask the question - Is there room for another wine related social network?

From previous experience I would have to say no.  How can three sites which are all fairly similar compete.  Something is going to have to give.

Why can’t someone create a beer social network!
