A Simple Task Managment Solution

If you read this blog regularly you will know that I favorite “simple” apps.  HiTask.com falls into this category and has created a very nice Task Management App.

Now there are plenty of these types of apps available online but I fell for HiTask’s great use of ajax.   This is one of those web apps which makes you feel like you’re using a desktop application.

HiTask is free and allows you to manage meetings, tasks, notes, birthdays and reminders, plus team management and a iCalendar feed.

The Game of Life

Prapta.com is a social networking site focused on your experiences in life.  You get points for checking of experiences that you have completed.  Whoever has done the most, wins!

There are over 1 million different experiences on tthe site that you can check off.  You can also blog about experiences and share photos.

Unlike MySpcase, Prapta has a purpose besides seeing how any “friends” you can get.  This is a really cool concept and if you’re like me and think MySpace is lame then im sure you will enjoy this new social network.

So what do you win?  Well im pretty sure its nothing except the satisfaction of knowing how much you’ve acheived in life.

Im going to give this app the rare Two Thumbs Up!

Tagging Second Life

I’ve been playing around with Second Life recently and im pretty much hooked.  But one thing I have noticed is that finding what you want in this huge virtual world can be a bit of a chore if you’re a newbie like myself.  So I was glad to find Sloog.org which is adding the familiar tagging system to Second Life.

The concept behind Sloog is simple.  Just grab a copy of the Sloog software from inside Second Life and start tagging places and avatars so you can find them later.  You can access tagged items from the website or “in world”.

This is a definate improvment on the current location bookmarking system which can be very confusing once you’ve saved a number of places.

Take a look at Sloog.org.  Not a Second Life resident?  Grab a free account here

Another Site in the Mobile Payments Industry

I have done a lot of posts following the mobile payments industry ie. the sending of money between mobile phones, and it looks like there’s a new kid on the block, TexPayMe.

Although at first I thought I would simply dismiss this site, after a bit of digging I discovered some interesting facts.    TextPayMe is liscenced under MNESVC Inc, which funnily enough is a fully owned subsidary of Amazon.

So far, Amazon has not made a comment on its connection with TextPayMe.  But could Amazon seriously be considering taking on PayPal?   Amazon has always stated that PayPal was a competitor and this is the reason why PayPal isn’t accepted on Amazon.

The site has been around for a couple of years now but hasn’t really done much.  It will be interesting to know how they plan on competing with Obopay, KushCash and PayPal Mobile.

Noov Over Scrapblog? I Don’t Think So

Noovo.us is suspicisouly similar product to scrap blog where you can create “good looking” webpages in a desktop app enviroment.

So why isn’t this taking the world by storm?  Well they have failed in one major area - the web pages you build can only be viewed in Internet Explorer.  I also have a another issue with the app, it pre-loads the page using a “loading” message.  This is not only annyoing but I bet it doesnt do any favors for SEO.

So I guess i’m just going to have to wait until Scrapblog comes out of private beta.

You’ve Been Rated

If you use Ebay, you will know what I’m talking about when I say that there feedback and rating system is biased.  Why? Because if you leave a negative feedback for a buyer or seller you are afraid the same thing might happen to you.  So whats the solution?  Make it anonymous.

The GORB has done just that, and its one of those companies I really hope will succeed.  Anyone can rate anyone simply by entering anyones email address.

All the site needs now is an API, so developers can integrate this new and improved rating system into web apps.   Unfortunately, Ebay being the greedy lot they are, will probably never integrate the GORB.

Sorry about the lack of posts recently.  I have been run off my feet working on a number of other projects. So if anyone would like to write a guest post they are more than welcome.

Reviewing Sponsored Reviews

Guess What? This post has been paid for by Sponsored Reviews

First there was PayPerPost, then came ReviewMe and now theres SponsoredReviews.   The service is closer to the ReviewMe side of things, as the blogger can choose how much they want to set per review.

Most importantly (and this should have been your first question) disclosure is required, which is probably the most important thing.  If you’re going to include ads on your site, make sure people know they are ads.

The biggest difference between ReviewMe and this one, is definitely price.  These guys will take 35% cut whereas RM is robbing you with a massive 50%.

Another nice feature is the ability to bid.  So you can negotiate the “perfect” price with the advertiser or blogger.  Last but not least, the bi-weekly payouts are a big improvement on PayPerPosts 30 days.

I like it!  You can buy a review from me here

CashLinkr is Taking on Text-Link-Ads

CashLinkr connects advertisers looking to purchase text links with websites and bloggers.  For publishers, they will pay you instant cash for placing a text link on your site or blog.

Unlike TLA, where the advertiser needs to find the site to advertise on, CashLinkr manages the entire process.  Although this means you wont have the same level of control, you’re putting your valuable advertising dollars in the hands of an SEO professional.  Another big difference is the cost to buy links.  Instead of buying a link at a time, you purchase site-wide links on 10 high traffic sites.  The price depends on the PR of site you wish to advertise on, but it averages out to be around $6 for a PR4+ link which is dirt cheap!

I can definitely see the SEO advantages of using CashLinkr as compared to TLA.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

Bla.st Update

I previously wrote about advertising concept Bla.st.  Well here is the update on how things are going.

I am currently paying $0.22 a day to have the Tap Blog Card displayed at around the top of the main page.  So far, after around a week since adding the card I have received a very reasonable amount of clicks.  From what im seeing so far, it looks as though this is as cost effective as PPC advertising.

I would be interested in knowing just how much traffic the #1 ranked card receives.  Also interested in knowing if people who added a free card are getting any clicks?

Buy And Sell Photos

CitizenImage.com is a relatively new service for buying and selling newsworthy photographs.

More and more people are getting there news from “user generated” sources and blogs have become a trusted an valuable media source.  So it makes sense that a marketplace has been created to cater for this next generation in media.

Through a website like CitizenImage anybody armed with a digital camera can become a photo journalist.  Im not sure how much it costs to use the site.

This is another step in the right direction towards a world full of better media. Check it out
