21) Bloglines is a feed aggregator that also integrates sharing and publishing. This is a great way to read and discover new and exciting blogs

22) I hate having to download software that I know I will only use a few times. eBuddy is a close friend of mine who allows me to access MSN, Yahoo and AIM messengers all all through a web based interface.

23) Fintune takes Pandora and takes one step forward. The internet radio app allows you to create a playlist of at least 45 songs and will stream it whenever you want. You can also select an artist to hear their songs and related tracks.

Wake Me Up

Want to feel like your staying in a hotel? Hate your boring alarm?

Snoozester.com provides wake up calls and reminders for a small monthly fee.  Currently its only available in U.S and Canada so I havnt been able to give it a try. But if you want to give it a try let me know how it goes.  You do get 10 free credits to get you started.

Setting up calls is done through an online control panel and you can also schedule reminders to help you remember that next important event.

Although this is not the first wake up call service I have come across, I think it has the best design and a nice feature list.

Your Digital Life Stream

Oh so close!

For a while I have been looking for a way to aggregate all my online activities (blogs, del.icio.us, flickr, digg etc) into a stream on this blog. For an idea of what a “digital stream” is take a look at Emily Chang’s.  There are a couple of wordpress plugins available but they are new and pretty much…..dont work.

I came across Jaiku.com which offers exactly the type of thing I was looking for, bar one slight problem, I cant have it hosted on my own site!   In fact Jaiku would be absolutely perfect if the added the ability to embed the stream.  Nudge Nudge.

Jaiku is a site I would usually recommend but I have encountered quite a major bug/problem - I can’t login.  At first I thought I might have a bad password/username but after double checking the welcome email (twice) it still wont work.  Further more when I try and use the “Forgot My Password” feature it doesn’t recognize my email or username.

I was able to login at first and start creating my Digital Stream which can be found at anthony.jaiku.com. So why am I winging about it here? Its amazing how quickly problems are fixed when posted on this blog!

Check it out here and then whine about it here

The 100 Hottest Web 2.0 Apps (Part 4)

Its time for the forth installment of the 100 Hottest Web 2.0 Apps (in no particular order).

moo.jpg

16) Im a huge fan of any application that takes my virtual life offline, and Moo.com does just that by printing my Flickr photos on tiny bite size cards (no they are not edible).  I can also print Bebo, Habbo Hotel and Second Life cards.

feedburner-logo.jpg

17) Feedburner gave bloggers the ability to see how many people were actually using their feeds.  As RSS becomes more popular, so will Feedburner.  You would have to be silly not to use such a great service!

slide_logo_tagline.gif

18) Slide has become the standard way for the swarms of MySpace users to showcase their pics.   Slide combines image hosting and widget generation into a winning formula.

header_beta_02.jpg

19) Using Zpeech, anyone can comment on any website.   This concept takes chat rooms and forums to a new level, spanning the entire width of the internet!

20) Contact forms became a whole lot easier when icebrrg emerged out the water.  It takes just seconds to create a powerful and feature rich form using this app.

Alexa is Selling Custom T-Shirts

tl-mysiterocks.jpgI noticed today while checking my sites ranking on Alexa that you can buy a custom t-shirts with various messages relating to your sites ranking.

Now im not a huge fan of Alexa so I probably wont be rushing out to buy one.  Also, my traffic rank changes on such a regular basis, that by the time my tee is shipped I will need a new one.  On the other hand, if Technorati came out with a t-shirt I would definitely be a customer!

T-shirts are printed through Zazzle.com

The 100 Hottest Web 2.0 Apps (Part 3)

Here are the next 5 Web 2.0 apps in my list of 100 hottest. This time im focusing on innovative applications which look set to create future trends.

joost.gif

11) Joost is a desktop application that streams internet TV to you using Peer 2 Peer technology. It is currently in Private Beta but has already generated a ton of buzz. Joost has already partnered with major networks, which is a sign net TV is going to get big.

jumpcut.gif

12) I still believe editing documents in a browser is cool but being able to fully edit videos through any browser is amazing. Jumcut combines social networking with video editing in a very neat package. Although you wont get all the powerful features as a desktop solution, an app like this is perfect for the average home user.

scrap.jpg

13) Scrapblog mixes blogging with scrap booking (as the name suggests).  This is a really good example of what can be achieved with web based apps.  With an app like this you will not even feel you are using a browser.

flower-small-multicolor.png

14) Dapper allows anyone to access and use data from any website.  With Dapper I can take any website, extract its content and use it in a variety of ways.  Whats innovative about Dapper is that anyone can use the site.

pluggd.gif

15) Pluggd allows you to search inside podcasts.  Using just a text search you can find bits of the podcast that may interest you without having to listen to the whole thing.  Pluggd uses speech-to-text technology and works suprinsingly well

What You Have Missed:

Isn’t Time You Did a Backup? (Sponsor)

Note: This post has been paid for by Backup Platinum one of the awesome companies who support this blog and its content!

It’s one of those things that we know we should do but don’t actually do it.  I’m talking about backup! I personally have worked on one too many startups that have lost huge amounts of data because a regular backup didn’t take place.

Backup Platinum is a great solution for looking after one of your most valuable assets - data.  There is nothing I like more then an application that features simplicity as a feature and Backup Platinum fits right into this category.  This nie piece of software features everything needed to backup your data on CD, DVD, FTP or Lan.  Other features include 128 bit encryption, ZIP compression,  schedules and disk spanning support.

I think this product would be the perfect backup application to small to mid size businesses ie. Net Startups.

I downloaded the 30 free trial and decided to use this software to backup all my data related to the Tap Media Network.  I went for the backup to FTP option and it worked faster then I had expected (plus the zip compession was ultra handy).

Pricing of the app starts at $67 and I also noticed on their website that they are offering 6 months free hosting for Think Host. Bonus

Check out Backup Platinum

Citibank Partners With Obopay - The Response

kc_lettermark_full.jpgPrevously I posted about Obopay’s (a mobile payment startup) plans to partner with Citibank. I also asked the question, “how will competitor, Kushcash.com respond?”. Well Kevin Malone from KushCash got in touch with his companies response:

“We think that it’s inevitable that mobile payment companies like Obopay partner with major banking institutions and view this as great news for them and for the marketplace as a whole. KushCash has garnered much interest from banking institutions also and will release details when appropriate. This is a really exciting and competitive time for KushCash to be in the market and announcements like this further prove how valuable mobile payments will become to the world in the future. Also, look forward to some huge announcements from KushCash soon!”

This is shaping up to be an exciting industry. Maybe 2007 will be the year for mobile payments?

The 100 Hottest Web 2.0 Apps (Part 2)

Here are the next 5 hottest Web 2.0 apps. For these 5 I have chosen some of the big guns which have had a HUGE impact on the internet.

diggnew.gif

6) The social news website Digg.com changed the way many people (including myself) access news stories. A sign of its success is the fact that everyone else is trying to copy there concept including big players Amazon and Yahoo.

technorati.png

7) Technorati is a blog search engine, ranking system and reader! Its ranking system has become a standard for checking a blogs popularity and has provided an alternative to the flawed Alexa.com for blogs.

logo_pandora.gif

8.) I few years ago, I would never have thought that I could have listened to my favorite music for free, but Pandora the parent of the new generation of internet radio changed this. Pandora learns from the music you like and dislike to play you a never ending stream of tracks.

logo1.gif

9) How could I go past the email application that forced all the other providers to clean up their acts. Remember all the hype when Gmail launched into a private beta! People were even selling invites (and whats more people bought them) to use Gmail. With its snazzy Ajax and huge storage space Gmail looks set to continue its superior run.

delicious_1.gif

10) Del.icio.us was and still is the choice of many for social bookmarking. Im not sure if they created the concept but if they did they are true geniuses. These days there are just so many bookmarking apps available which owe their success to Del.icio.us!

What You Have Missed:

  2. Talkshoe - Live and Interactive Podcasts
  3. Amie St - DRM Free MP3’s
