The T-Shirts Online Superguide

Now not only can you buy tees online, you can create, mashup, vote and share them. Here are some of the top tee sites online.

Threadless -  These guys combine shopping with a social network.  You can submit designs and slogans to be scored by the community.  Those that rank well, are added to the shop.  You can keep going back to this site and find new and exciting designs.

InnerTee - What do you get if you combine social networking, mashups and t-shirts? InnerTee of course.  To create a tee, simply mashup the available artwork and your left with a truly unique design.  Once finished, add it to the shop for others to buy.

T-Shirts Countdown - This is kind of like a top list site but for tees.  Anyone can add t-shirts to the site and users can vote for the best designs.  Could do a with a better design/layout and a better script.

T-Shirt Hell - Here you will find the funniest, rudest and crudest tees online. I got a laugh just by browsing through the shirt designs. Shirts are priced at around $18 and there is a huge selection.

Busted Tees - Not as crude as T-Shirt Hell but just as funny.  Some of the tees are priced as low as $9.99 which is awesome value.

Defunker - This seems to be the more serious side of Busted Tees.  Its run by the same people and offers the same quality.  These tees will set you back $20+

LMNO Tees - More funny tees in the feel of Busted Tees.  Not much more I can say

HotBins - Although you cant create the designs, you can vote on the ones you woud like to see printed.  Tees are $12 with free shipping.  Bargain.

SpreadShirt - If you’re looking to design (and sell) your own tees then you can’t go past Spreadshirt.  They use a flash based design tool which allows you to rapidly create t-shirts plus you can have your very own shop.  Think CafePress but with quality.

Zazzle - This site looks very similar to Cafepress.  Choose from a range of different tee designs and styles.

99dogs - Although it has a horrible design this looks to be the only site that offers custom tees as well as accepting PayPal.  So if you dont have credit card this may be your only option.

Download YouTube, DailyMotion, Google Videos!

This is nothing new. In fact I have been downloading Dailymotion videos for later viewing for many months.  Here are just some of the different ways you can download videos from YouTube, DailyMotion, Google Videos etc. (And no I wont bother putting in a disclaimer).

I will start by explaining the problem behind downloading videos from these popular sites.  First up they are displayed to you using a flash based player.  This means that the videos has most likely been converted into a .flv file (which can’t be viewed by WMP etc.)

So here are the options for downloading vids.  The easiest way is to use Video Downloader 2.0.  And dont worry you wont have to download anything (except the video!).  You simply insert the URL of the video and then download the file.  I found that for an average episode of The Office (which of course I would never watch illegally) was around 75mb.  The File that you download will be in .flv format but dont worry here is a free .flv player for windows.

The same Video Download 2.0 comes as a FireFox extension.  Its as simply as clicking an icon while your watching a video you wish to download.  Download the extension here

Now if you would like to actually have the video converted and downloaded in one then take a look at Vixy.  Simply enter the URL of the page of the video you wish to download and Vixy will give you a custom download URL with which links to the converted video file.

There are a number of other options available but many include watermarks, adware etc. My tip is never pay for a piece of software that can download and convert vids when it can all be done online for free!

SMS the Smart and Free Way

Sending SMS messages online is nothing new but Joopz has come up with a simple solution for not only sending but receiving messages as well.

The best thing about Joopz has to be its price tag.  The basic account is free which includes 10 outgoing sms messages each  month and unlimited incoming messages. To receive unlimited outgoing messages it will only cost you $2.95 which is a price I would be willing to pay.

You will also get some other handy features including group chat (very handy for community groups), text reminders and scheduled messages.

The service is currently only available to US residents like just about every other mobile focused app but heres hoping they one day expand.

Make Your Videos Fun!

Messing around with videos is fun.  I wrote a post earlier on how you could have fun with pictures here and I have now come across a site where I can add text bubbles to my videos.

Adding bubbles to videos is nothing new but what I like about BubblePLY is that its simple and fast.  It requires no registration to use and it takes just minutes to add speech bubbles to a video. Once done adding bubbles wherever possible, you can either embed the video on your site or get link.

Festive Firefox Feel

If your looking to get into the Christmas spirit but don’t want to go to the effort of dangling Christmas lights all over your house, why not give Firefox a makeover.

Thanks to the great looking Tinseltown theme found here you can now have the festive firefox feel! It comes complete with a candy cane scrollbar, Christmas icons and snowflakes just about everywhere. Here is a screen shot of my browser with the Tinseltown theme.

Were big Firefox fans at TAP.  If you have any themes or add-ons for the fox let us know!

How to RSS

RSS? I see it everwhere but im not quite sure what it is? Is this you?

Here is my guide on how to RSS.  To start with I will begin by explaining what RSS is whats it is used for.

What is RSS
RSS is used by websites to syndicate there content.  In other words a website like this one will publish an RSS feed that other websites and software can view.  So with RSS I can aggregate a whole range of content from different sources on the one page.

Why Use RSS
There are hundreds of different uses for RSS but this one might suit you.  Do you visit a number of news websites and blogs everyday?  Wouldn’t it be great if you could have all of this content in the one place.

How to Use RSS
There are a number of different applications available to help you read RSS feeds.  If you are using IE7 there is a built in RSS feed reader.  This button will become active when an RSS feed is available on the current website.  This screenshot shows the button.

There are also plugins available for our favorite browser Firefox which will allow you to do the same thing. You may also have noticed a number of buttons on our sidebar (Google, Yahoo, Newsgator, Netvibes).  These allow you to add the TAP feed to your Google Reader etc. To use these buttons just register at your favortie feed reader service and then click the corresponding button.  I reccomend either Google Reader of Newsgator but AOL and Yahoo also offer similar services. You will find many of the major news websites and blogs will use these buttons.

RSS Subcription Buttons

There are many websites that will read RSS feeds for you.  These sites may ask you for the .xml URL and if so just find the orange rss button on the website, click it, and then copy the URL given.

Instant Alerts
If you visit a blog more then once a day to check for new content you can now instead, recieve instant sms, instant messages or emails when new content is availavle.  There are couple of sites that offer this service but none as simple as ZapTxt. ZapTxt allows you to specefy which websites and blogs you wish to monitor and what content you would like to notified about and best of all its free!

Startpages
There are many startpage apps online that will allow you to integrate RSS feeds.  Netvibes, one of my favorites, is quick and easy to use.  Google also has its own custom startpage which feeds can be added to.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to RSS but hopefully this article will make RSS a little more friendly. Do you use other services for reading RSS? Let me know.

Give Your PC a Mac Look

If you like the look of a Mac but don’t want to fork out the dollars for a shiny new mac then you can get the same look and feel completely free of charge.  Thats right Free. No Shareware, Adware or Spyware!

 From This To:

This “Mac Look” can be acheived using free software, themes and icons and I transformed my look in around 10 minutes.

Windows Theme Patch - WindowsXP doesn’t allow you to use unsigned third party themes so you will need to patch a file before changing to an OSX theme. Don’t worry this is a very user friendly step! Just download the installer, unzip it and run.  Thats it!  Make sure you create a restore point before running the installer just in case.  Although I have never heard of any problems.

Download Patcher (80kb)

The Theme - There are a number of OSx themes available online.  StudioTwentyEight has a great range of tiger and panther themes.

The Desktop - If you don’t want to install a theme but just want that shiny blue desktop you can download it below

Download Tiger Desktop
Download Panther Desktop

The Object Dock - For those unfamiliar with the mac interface, the object dock is the group of icons at the bottom of the screen.  There are a few PC equivilant but my favorite is RK Launcher.  Unlike other similar products its free, stable and has all the features you need!

Visit the RK Launcher Download Page

Widgets - Desktop widgets are not only great fun they are also extremely useful.  Take a look at there various widget options. For my transformation I used Yahoo Widgets.

Visit Yahoo Widgets

iChat - For a windows version of iChat simply grab Trillian and add this iChat skin.

Download Trillian
Download iChat Skin for Trillian

Icons - Just like styles and themes there are thousands of icons avialable.  However this website has a good range

There are many more good resources to give you that mac look and this is just a start.  Please suggest your own tips.  Look out for more ways to transform your PC into a MAC coming soon
