iPhone to become the Swiss Army Knife of Techno Gadgets

The release date for the new iPhone has been set for June 29th and the device will carry a hefty price tag of between $500 and $600. If you believe the hype, the new iPhone will be the best MP3 player / phone / video player / PDA ever made. In other words, the Swiss Army Knife of Techno Gadgets.

The new iPhone will include features that allow you to access the Internet from any location and send email; a color touch screen for playing music and video; a built in camera for taking photos and capturing video; and full wi-fi capabilities. Oh, and I almost forgot, it works as a cell phone too.

If you are a geek with extra money to burn and a passion for always having the next “new” thing, then the new iPhone may just be right for you. I, on the other hand, will rather wait a few months for the price to drop and all of the bugs to be worked out in version 2.0.

Google Partners with Clear Channel Radio

I received a press release from Google today announcing an agreement between them and Clear Channel Radio which currently has over 675 stations.

The agreement allows Google to sell a portion of Clear Channel’s advertising inventory through Google Audio Ads.

It has always been a challenge for internet startups, shops, sites etc. to diversify and advertise in the “real world”.  Google’s Audio Ads will make this process a whole lot simpler.   How long will it be before we see Google TV ads?

Alexa is Selling Custom T-Shirts

tl-mysiterocks.jpgI noticed today while checking my sites ranking on Alexa that you can buy a custom t-shirts with various messages relating to your sites ranking.

Now im not a huge fan of Alexa so I probably wont be rushing out to buy one.  Also, my traffic rank changes on such a regular basis, that by the time my tee is shipped I will need a new one.  On the other hand, if Technorati came out with a t-shirt I would definitely be a customer!

T-shirts are printed through Zazzle.com

Citibank Partners With Obopay - The Response

kc_lettermark_full.jpgPrevously I posted about Obopay’s (a mobile payment startup) plans to partner with Citibank. I also asked the question, “how will competitor, Kushcash.com respond?”. Well Kevin Malone from KushCash got in touch with his companies response:

“We think that it’s inevitable that mobile payment companies like Obopay partner with major banking institutions and view this as great news for them and for the marketplace as a whole. KushCash has garnered much interest from banking institutions also and will release details when appropriate. This is a really exciting and competitive time for KushCash to be in the market and announcements like this further prove how valuable mobile payments will become to the world in the future. Also, look forward to some huge announcements from KushCash soon!”

This is shaping up to be an exciting industry. Maybe 2007 will be the year for mobile payments?

A New Level of Security for PayPal

PayPal has introduced a new level of security of the form of a key.  This piece of hardware generates a key every 30 seconds or so that you use to log into your account along with your username and password.

The cost for this device is $5.00us but those with business accounts pay nothing! They are also available outside of the U.S as well (I am not sure about all countries but Australian’s can get one).

For those of you who use PayPal you should really consider getting one of these. Besides, they say its better to be safe then sorry.

This page has all the details.

On the Topic of Widgets - Widgipedia Launches

Well this has seemed to be all about Widgets so staying on topic, take a look at Widgipedia.com.  The site which officially launched today combines widgets from Widgetbox,  Yahoo, Musestorm etc.

The funny thing is you would think that such a site would contain loads of quality yet the lack of quantity and quality was surprising. However the concept is good (yet the design is lacking) and I am sure it will grow with time.

One last note.  I mentioned that it uses widgets from Musestorm yet I couldnt find any.  Let me know if you could.

WidgetBox Launches Blidgets

Widgetbox.com, which offers a directory of popular widgets has released Blidgets.  The service allows bloggers to create a “widget” of their content.

I wrote an earlier post on a similar product Musestorm and Blidgets seems to be a direct competitor.  Although the end result is the same on both sites Blidgets currently has the advantage of an existing visitor base.  It will be interesting to see how these sites compete.
