A Simple Remote Desktop Solution

logo-s.gifI studied Networking to become a network admin a while back. Although I never actually went into that line of work, I have been inundated with “my computers not working” comments. I often have to go round to friends houses to fix problems and im starting to wish that I had came across, Tap’s newest sponsor - TechinLine Remote Desktop!

Where to Watch Online!

Update: Many of the links in the original post are no longer valid. However, I found a free software application called Graboid that allows you watch most of these episodes for free. Just click here to get the software from our resources directory and download it. Once downloaded, go to the TV section in the software, search for the TV show (for example, The Office), and select play. I was able to watch all of the episodes with no delay in the video streaming.

In this continuing week of nothingness I will show you where you can watch some of my favorite TV shows and movies online.

Band of Brothers - This was an amazing 11 part series which followed a company of soldiers during WW2. Each episode (which is like a mini movie) was directed by a different director and the Executive Producers were Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. Here are the episodes:

Saving Private Ryan - While I was watching Band of Brothers I remembered the epic Saving Private Ryan and so I decided to do a search for it online. You can watch the entire movie on YouTube. However, im betting that it will be taken down fairly soon.

Hot Fuzz - This is one of my favorite movies. It is an extremely well directed film Unfortunately I was only able to find a link which has a bit at the beginning missing and the quality isnt amazing.

The Da Vinci Code - I actually thought this movie was pretty good, probably because I never read the book.

300 - This was a good movie but I didn’t find that I was able to really get involved with the characters. None the less, this was another example of a great Director.

Casino Royale - I found this was a fresh new take on the bond franchise. The all new Bond, Daniel Craig is very talented and a great choice to fill the role.

Google’s New “My Maps” Feature

Google’s new My Maps alreadly looks to be a hit with these mashed up maps appearing all over the place. With this new feature you can easily create customized maps with placemarks, lines and shapes and then share the map using a unique URL. It is even possible to add hosted images and video through html.

Now adding placemarks has existed for long time in Google Earth, but this new feature allows you to quickly and easily share these maps with others. There have also been a number of startups which offer a similar product. It will be interesting to see if these can survive.

To start creating customized maps, head on over to Google Maps and click the My Maps tab. Once done adding maps you can share it using a unique URL or exporting it as a .kml file.

I have checked out similar services including Windows Live Maps, but nothing seems to be quite as simple and user friendly.

Im Back

Well after a few days off over Easter, im back and ready to start reviewing more of the great web 2.0 apps.  It looks like I was the only one to take a break as so much happened while I was away.

However, being on holidays without my regular internet connection I was able to test run some other ways to access the net like Opera Mini.  More on this in the coming weeks.

An Interesting Take on the Affiliate Program

PayPerPost which offers a uniqe form of blog marketing has released an interesting take on the traditional affiliate program. Instead of just getting a % of a sale or similar PayPerPost’s “Review my Post” will not only pay the person clicks through but the blogger as well.

Here is how it works. The blogger (obviously a member of PPP) adds a few lines of code to their blog which will display an image saying “Review My Post”. When someone clicks through they will need to register with PPP and a special posting opportunity will be created where they are paid $7.50 to review one of your posts. Whats more, once they complete this opportunity you will be paid $7.50 too!

This will not only be a great little income earner but you are effectively paying people to market and promote your website…..ooops….thats right PPP is paying bloggers to promote your site.

This program could be extremely popular! If you still have doubts about PayPerPost then here is my take on the site. What is wrong with placing ads in your blog. PPP requires disclosure so your going to know if its sponsored. Dont forget many blogs including Techcrunch include the odd sponsored post (Techcrunch calls it a commercial break).

So I encourage you to at least take a look at this and tell me what you think.

Chat on Any Website

Yaplet is simple. Yaplet works.  Yaplet is chat for any website.

If you read this blog regularly you will now I’m a big fan of web 2.0 sites that take what could be a complex solution and make it simple.  And Yaplet has done just this.   So what does it do? Yaplet allows you to chat on any website.  To see what im talking about take a look at this here and have a chat. This URL will bring up a frame on the right hand side of this page.  To see the chat on other site take a look at Yaplet.com.

I talked about a similar product Zpeech.com and although I was very impressed with their site Japlet has one major advantage, registration is not required to chat!

How to Get on Google Maps

Now I know this isn’t directly related to web 2.0 but after reading this article I knew I had to mention it.

Downunder, here in Australia and number of dotcoms have turned out creating large signs in an attempt to be on Google Maps. This is the first time that the public has been aware of such an exercise (A Google plane flying at 600m).
