Will There Ever be a Google OS
There has recently been a bit of buzz about Google OS. The fact is a Google Operating system doesn’t exist but many people believe Google OS would be a good idea.
If you take a look at current products offered by Google you could easily suggest that Goolge is an OS already! But wouldn’t it be great to see Google release a web based OS that served as a hub for all their current products (or should I say features?).
I believe Google will release a central online storage feature sometime in the future. A central online storage feature? Whats that? Well, currently they offer seperate storage for email, web pages (google site creator), Google Docs etc and the next logical step would be to create an online sotrage feature. Take a look at ZDNets coverage on Google online storage (Gdrive) Here.
Following on from GDrive, Google might look at creating a hub for there features and this could be considered as an OS. Will they ever release a Linux distribution? I doubt it. Let me know what you think.

A general “WebOS via AJAX in the browser” will never be a reality for end consumers. It’s far easier to lay down the $199 on a new Dell and have everything right on your desktop. This is largely why YouOS and other companies haven’t caught on. Almost everyone is aware of them, but they just aren’t efficient.
Now, don’t get me wrong… A “WebOS via AJAX in the browser” is a great option for enterprise consumers IF they can host the OS on their own infrastructure. They could bypass Windows licensing by booting directly into a 10-20MB kernel that simply runs a browser environment. Of course, Windows will still have its place - supplying users that need rich desktop interactivity (CAD, media, etc).
But, if the kernel route is taken - why not just throw in OpenOffice? Everything is distributed via the network; nothing is held locally. Want your enterprise OS on your desktop at home? Put in the USB chip which connects you to the system and pulls down your OS and connects you with your data. A thin, rich OS that DOESN’T have the limitations of AJAX.
WebOS is all about data portability - NOT about the OS. People need to learn that quickly.
Great comment. I agree. WebOS is about data portability!
